Read October is a literacy and dyslexia awareness program run by the International Dyslexia Association Ontario.  Read October promotes reading while raising money to purchase dyslexia friendly resources for Ontario Public Libraries. 

Three ways to get involved

1. Read a book

Get your class involved by reading and logging books an posting your progress on social media!  Everyone is invited to participate, all you have to do is download this form, track your classroom reading progress and post using the hashtag #ReadOctober to entered into the draw!

2. Join the Read-a-thon fundraiser

Sign up on our secure Canada Helps page to helps us reach 

(or exceed!) our $10,000 campaign target. You can join as a team, class or individual. Set personal reading and fundraising goals and ask your family and friends to sponsor you. Just for signing up you'll be entered into a draw for fabulous prizes! For every $50 you raise, your name will be entered once into our grand price draw.

3. Sponsor a reader

Everyone has their own personal reason for joining Read October. Visit the Read October page on Canada Helps and browse through the stories of our participants. Choose one that resonates with you and donate to help them reach their goals.  All funds raised go to providing mini-grants for Ontario Public Libraries to purchase dyslexia friendly resources.

Join us October 6th for the Dyslexia Awareness Month Virtual Launch Party

To kick off dyslexia awareness month, we invite elementary school classes from across Canada to join us for this fun and informative 30 minture session. Students will have the opportunity to learn about what dyslexia is, hear from Canadian students about their experiences with dyslexia, and meet one of Dyslexia Canada's celebrity ambassadors - Meghan Buchanan!

Classes that register for this event before September 15th will receive a package of goodies full of stickers and bookmarks. All classes that register will also be entered into a draw to win a class pizza party and new decodable books for their school library.
