Read October

To celebrate Dyslexia Awareness Month in October, Read October raises money through sponsored read-a-thons to fund public libraries. Set personal reading and fundraising goals, and ask family and friends for sponsorship. Your participation will provide decodable books to public libraries and raise dyslexia awareness.

What is the Library Project?

The International Dyslexia Association of Ontario partners with public libraries to bring awareness to the early signs of dyslexia and provides resources so families can support and advocate for their children. Funds from the Read October campaign help provide training for library staff, grants for decodable books, and information sessions for parents and caregivers.

Read October Impact

We are all very pleased with our growing collection. The school kids visit every two weeks and these decodable books circulate along with all the others, with several kids getting “hooked” on a series. It is wonderful to see their enthusiasm.

- Killaloe Public Library

This program is fantastic! Without it I doubt our small library system would be able to include these many decodable books in our collection!

- Clearview Public Library

Staff were happy to finally have a decodable collection to offer the public. There has been an increase in homeschool families in our area and a higher demand for literacy materials, including decodable books.
